After devastating defeats, these two WEC fighters are looking to get back on the right path by destroying each other. Cub Swanson (12-2) and Hiroyuki Takaya (9-5-1) are going to battle at WEC 35 in the 140-pound devision at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on August 3rd according to Sherdog.
At WEC 31, Cub Swanson suffered a defeat at the hands of “Lil Evil” Jens Pulver in his return to featherweight which set Swanson back from his title contention. With the defeat being at only 35 seconds of the first round (the second loss of Swanson’s career), he’s definitely on a war path to redemption.
Takaya is a tough fighter with impressive punching power and will look to end the fight early. Swanson has a tough road ahead of him and I hope that he isn’t just looking past Takaya and focusing on a title shot. It would be a huge mistake.
At WEC 32 in Feb. Takaya was knocked out in 91 seconds of the first round by Leonard Garcia. The Bad Boy made quick work of what supposed to be a great pick up for the WEC and made Hiroyuki look like he didn’t belong in the WEC at all. I promise you this has not sat well with “Streetfight Bancho”.
This fight is expected to be on the televised portion of the WEC 35 card, which is headlined by a ridiculous amount of title fights that include champions Brian Stann, Carlos Condit and Jamie Varner. It will air LIVE on the Versus network at 9 p.m.ET. This is definitely one you do NOT want to miss.
